Our Vision

We at St. Paul's Episcopal Church believe that the Holy Spirit is calling us to be a Community of Prayer. While all Christians are called to pray, we believe that becoming a special Community of Prayer is the unique vision that we are receiving from God. We understand that this will involve:

  • devoting ourselves to a ministry of prayer for this church community, the larger Oroville community, and the World.
  • seeking to move forward in our life together only after careful and serious prayer for guidance. We will attempt to find God's purpose and leading in all we do.
  • committing ourselves to learning how to pray more effectively.
  • offering teaching and learning opportunities to our constituency and to the community on the meaning of prayer, how to pray, and ways to pray.
  • offering ourselves and our community as a channel for God's healing touch through the ministry of healing prayer.
  • using the facilities that God has provided to St. Paul's, including our Sanctuary and our Prayer Garden/Labyrinth, as physical means and environments for prayer.

We confess and acknowledge that we are not experts in prayer. In order to fulfill this vision, we must devote ourselves to intensely seeking God's direction, guidance, and empowerment for this task. In the broadest possible definition, we define prayer as "reaching out with all that is in us to God for all that he has to give us."
